Stetson516 DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers robbed the room for Higgins. Final grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Jay Higgins had no business being available in slot 218, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will need Nash to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Shavon Revel Jr.
In No. 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Nothing to complain about; Tyleik Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They liked Mason Taylor enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 123 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick157
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 157 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick179
Rnd6
Nick Nash
A big swing on Nick Nash at the 179th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
They will replay Bhayshul Tuten at the 197th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick208
Rnd6
Clay Webb
They paid a round early for Clay Webb in Round 6, Pick 33, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in the 213th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in Round 7, Pick 2 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick253
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
