Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Oluwafemi Oladejo pick is the one that will follow the Chargers into the fall. They took him 117 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Moore falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Nice patience on Marcus Mbow, who had no business lasting to pick 59. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A real head-scratcher, Darius Alexander in Round 3, Pick 22 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick No. 124 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at No. 128 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick159 Rnd5 Que Robinson
They talked themselves into Que Robinson at the 159th pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
They read the board right and Damien Martinez was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick177 Rnd5 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 177th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the 183rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick201 Rnd6 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick 215 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in pick No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick253 Rnd7 Bryson Nesbit
A wild overpay on Bryson Nesbit in slot 253, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
