If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Barryn Sorrell at the 158th overall pick is 117 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

That Smith pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
