Draft Grade — Cardinals

FutureB-
The Cardinals let Jones fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cardinals were there to profit. Trente Jones, the No. 195 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 226. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will need Holker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. With quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick32
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kool-Aid McKinstry at pick 32. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A reach on Kris Jenkins in the 35th overall pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
The board fumbled Cooper Beebe all the way to pick No. 66, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
A tidy bit of business in No. 71, where Adisa Isaac graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jonah Elliss
No drama and no debate, Jonah Elliss went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick95
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at the 95th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jarvis Brownlee Jr. while clear needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman sat open.
Pick127
Rnd4
Dallin Holker
A real head-scratcher, Dallin Holker in the 127th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138
Rnd5
Matt Goncalves
Steal is underselling it; Matt Goncalves at slot 138 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Nice patience on Jacob Cowing, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in pick 162 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris slipping to Round 5, Pick 33 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Dillon Johnson
Value with a capital V on Dillon Johnson in No. 186, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick219
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
They will replay Steele Chambers at pick No. 219 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
Trente Jones
Trente Jones at the 226th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
