Draft Grade — Bears

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Bears to a C. Nobody had CJ West this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 64 spots to get him at the 149th overall pick.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Noel falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
A straight-up fair deal on Shemar Stewart at pick No. 11, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
By-the-book stuff, Tyleik Williams at pick 39 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick47
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They paid sticker price for Aireontae Ersery in Round 2, Pick 15, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
A reasonable price with a little left over, Quinshon Judkins in slot 72. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Charles Grant
This one needs a full-page explanation: Charles Grant in the 75th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the 110th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
Taking Jaylin Noel in the 114th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
CJ West
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ West this early at Round 5, Pick 10. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick205
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Nice patience on Luke Lachey, who had no business lasting to pick No. 205. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
