cdgolden01 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Fadil Diggs in pick 198. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. That Porter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
No drama and no debate, Derrick Harmon went about where he belonged in the 33rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the 54th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darien Porter
They let Darien Porter come to them and pounced at pick No. 87. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
By-the-book stuff, Ashton Gillotte at pick 95 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
They jumped the gun on Nohl Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Fadil Diggs
A big swing on Fadil Diggs at No. 198, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick237
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler at Round 7, Pick 21 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick250
Rnd7
John Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: John Williams in the 250th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
