Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Thomas: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Jakobe Thomas, the No. 126 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The Patriots indulged a want in Perkins Jr. while a need in quarterback and running back stayed open. The cost of the Zvada reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
In slot 31 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Chris Bell
Circle this one: Chris Bell at the 63rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
You do not let a linebacker like Sonny Styles reach Round 3, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick125 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Harold Perkins Jr. while clear needs at quarterback and running back sat open.
Pick131 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Trigg at pick No. 131 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves slipping to pick 169 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200 Rnd6 Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta in the 200th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
A reach on Fernando Carmona in pick 207; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick210 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
They reached into another round for Dominic Zvada, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
Value with a capital V on Tony Grimes in Round 7, Pick 31, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
