Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Hardy: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Daequan Hardy, the No. 195 name on the board, stolen at pick 238. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Sirmon to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 20th pick they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick60 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
A tidy bit of business in the 60th overall pick, where J.J. McCarthy graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Matt Goncalves
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Matt Goncalves while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick120 Rnd4 Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris at pick 120 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
A curious use of pick No. 121. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Beaux Limmer did not.
Pick197 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to slot 197, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at Round 7, Pick 18 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick246 Rnd7 Jackson Sirmon
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Sirmon well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
