Draft Grade — Cowboys

More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B to prove it. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Daevin Hobbs a full 43 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Echoles pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board. Brown at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Will Echoles
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent pick No. 19 on Will Echoles, an interior defensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick20
Rnd1
PJ Williams
In the 20th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Ryan Wingo
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 26, with Ryan Wingo worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Sammy Brown
A curious use of slot 83. Tight end needed the pick; a linebacker in Sammy Brown did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jayden Maiava
A reach on Jayden Maiava in pick 92; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick112
Rnd4
Evan Tengesdahl
Evan Tengesdahl at the 112th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Mateen Ibirogba
They read the board right and Mateen Ibirogba was the payoff at the 150th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick177
Rnd5
Jeremiah Cobb
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Cobb at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jay'Vion Cole
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jay'Vion Cole. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs in No. 221 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick225
Rnd7
Christian Alliegro
Christian Alliegro at slot 225 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
