The Lions checked most of the boxes and earned a B. There is reaching, and then there is Will Putnam at Round 7, Pick 31. The Lions jumped the board by 45 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Suamataia makes the weekend a net positive.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Chris Braswell
In the 30th overall pick they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick42
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Quinyon Mitchell in pick No. 42. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick73
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Circle this one: Kingsley Suamataia at slot 73 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
They paid up for Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 30 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
They did well to land Grayson Murphy in pick 167, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
They let De'Corian Clark come to them and pounced at No. 208. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick251
Rnd7
Will Putnam
Will Putnam at Round 7, Pick 31 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
