The Lions checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The war room fell hard for Cedric Gray, and it showed at Round 3, Pick 30: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Clark falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Chris Braswell
In slot 30 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62
Rnd2
Josh Newton
A clean, defensible pick in the 62nd pick with a little surplus value in Josh Newton. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
A real head-scratcher, Cedric Gray in pick No. 93 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick167
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in No. 167; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick 208 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
