Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC FutureB
Giddens should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Panthers were there to profit. DJ Giddens, the No. 165 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 227th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They will need McCord to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at Round 1, Pick 30 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at the 56th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A slide stopped in the 57th pick, with Tyler Booker worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74 Rnd3 Kyle McCord
They reached a country mile for Kyle McCord at pick 74, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
They did well to land Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick114 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
They liked Jacob Parrish enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 114. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron in pick No. 140 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148 Rnd5 Cody Simon
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 Mitchell Evans
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mitchell Evans in Round 5, Pick 25, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in pick 227 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
