Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Jets: B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Jets spent pick No. 207 on Teddye Buchanan, a name most had 45 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Landing Zabel that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 7th pick they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick52 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 52nd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick73 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason Taylor. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick82 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 82 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
They let Tez Johnson come to them and pounced at No. 110. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145 Rnd5 CJ West
CJ West at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick162 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
The board had cheaper options than Willie Lampkin at pick 162, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 186th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207 Rnd6 Teddye Buchanan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Teddye Buchanan well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
