Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesC+
FutureB-
The Panthers won the night they stopped Ramsey from sliding. Grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Panthers were there to profit. Kamari Ramsey, the No. 46 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 147.
Every board in the league had Carmona lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Tai Felton
Good price on Tai Felton in the 29th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick47
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in pick 47 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jake Majors
A reach for Jake Majors in No. 54; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick62
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyleik Williams. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick71
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A big swing on Darien Porter at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in slot 107 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at pick No. 111 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach Round 5, Pick 2 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147
Rnd5
Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey in the 147th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162
Rnd5
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in No. 162 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
