Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Panthers for Stout: B+.

Call it larceny. Upton Stout sat on the board until pick No. 229, and the Panthers did not need to be asked twice.

Reaching for Lachey left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In the 14th pick they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Taking Nick Emmanwori in the 45th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
They paid sticker price for Alfred Collins in slot 57, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick74 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at Round 4, Pick 12 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at pick 141 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
They took Raheim Sanders at par in No. 147, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick164 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A reach for Cobee Bryant in pick No. 164; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick229 Rnd7 Upton Stout
They barely believed it either: Upton Stout still on the board at the Round 7 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
