Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Panthers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The board owed the Panthers one, and it paid up: Jake Slaughter, the No. 54 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Dennis-Sutton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 19th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick51 Rnd2 Dani Dennis-Sutton
A wild overpay on Dani Dennis-Sutton in No. 51, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach the 83rd pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at No. 120 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick156 Rnd5 Reggie Virgil
Reggie Virgil at the 156th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick157 Rnd5 Albert Regis
Albert Regis in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick198 Rnd6 Lander Barton
Lander Barton slipping to pick 198 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick235 Rnd7 John Michael Gyllenborg
A conviction pick on John Michael Gyllenborg at pick No. 235 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
By-the-book stuff, Diego Pavia at Round 7, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick257 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
A real head-scratcher, Joey Aguilar in slot 257 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
