Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueC+

TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chiefs: B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chiefs spent Round 7, Pick 32 on Kendall Milton, a name the board had a full 104 spots lower. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In No. 31 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
A straight-up fair deal on Ruke Orhorhoro at pick 63, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Wright in Round 4, Pick 31 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Curtis Jacobs
A wild overpay on Curtis Jacobs in the 161st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171
Rnd5
James Williams
Taking James Williams in slot 171 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick175
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson is a better player than Round 5, Pick 39 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights at slot 209 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton at pick No. 252 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
