The steal of the weekend belongs to the Raiders and Jagusah: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Charles Jagusah, the No. 123 name on the board, stolen at pick 174. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Alexander reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 7 they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
John Mateer
John Mateer in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jalon Kilgore
No drama and no debate, Jalon Kilgore went about where he belonged in pick 69. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104
Rnd4
Deion Burks
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deion Burks. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 133 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick174
Rnd5
Charles Jagusah
Somehow Charles Jagusah was still sitting there in the 174th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak is a better player than No. 192 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bear Alexander. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
