FutureA
The Panthers kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Panthers spent real capital to be 39 picks early on JJ Pegues, and the board is going to hold them to it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Danielle Hunter pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In the 25th pick they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at pick No. 57, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
They went early on Maxwell Hairston in Round 2, Pick 26, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at No. 74 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in slot 111 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Slater in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A big swing on Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 140th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick146
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick 146 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick163
Rnd5
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jay Higgins in pick No. 166, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
They liked CJ Dippre enough to skip the value, taking him in the 230th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
