Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall

ValueB

FutureC+
Brooks should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a B-. When a board-topper like Tahj Brooks slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Cardinals did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Watson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Cardinals paired the rookies with proven help, Matthew Bergeron leading the way. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 20th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick42
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emeka Egbuka at the 42nd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick 72 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 94 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel in Round 4, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Good price on Emery Jones Jr. in pick No. 152, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick168
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in slot 168 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
Somehow Jaydon Blue was still sitting there in pick No. 203, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick212
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
They reached a country mile for Desmond Watson at Round 6, Pick 36, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick225
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They liked Isaac TeSlaa enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 225. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick243
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
