Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
D
ValueD
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureA+
The Cardinals answered their biggest question with Nix. Grade: D. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cardinals would have aced it. Khristian Boyd at pick No. 78 is 105 spots clear of where he belonged. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Bo Nix is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will answer for taking cornerback early while offensive lineman, tight end and other spots went begging.
The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Bullard at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In No. 18 they get their guy under center for the next decade, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Bucky Irving
In pick 27 they get a featured back, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
A tidy bit of business in slot 59, where Keon Coleman graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick66
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
Quietly one of the better values of the day, T.J. Tampa at the 66th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick71
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
A slide stopped in pick No. 71, with Javon Bullard worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick78
Rnd3
Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at the 78th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Kalen King
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kalen King at cornerback with offensive lineman, tight end and other spots open.
Pick97
Rnd3
M.J. Devonshire
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, M.J. Devonshire adds a cornerback and leaves offensive lineman, tight end and other spots untouched.
