Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB TradesB FutureA+
A puzzling weekend of work from the Cardinals: D+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cardinals would have aced it. Collin Schlee at the Round 6 slot is 253 spots clear of where he belonged. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Sam Hubbard chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Will Rogers
Value said wait; Will Rogers in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Miller Moss
Miller Moss at pick No. 50 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68 Rnd3 Denver Harris
They left a pile of value on the table to take Denver Harris this early at pick 68. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jeff Sims
They talked themselves into Jeff Sims at No. 89, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd4 Hudson Card
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hudson Card in the 100th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132 Rnd5 Payton Thorne
Payton Thorne at slot 132 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
A big swing on Tyler Shough at Round 5, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick164 Rnd6 Collin Schlee
A wild overpay on Collin Schlee in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196 Rnd7 Cameron Rising
Cameron Rising in slot 196 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
