FutureC
The Cardinals let Cowing fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jacob Cowing got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at No. 223. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Reaching for Gore Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The Jaire Alexander deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
Marvin Harrison Jr. in pick No. 2 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
They liked Jordan Morgan enough to skip the value, taking him in the 34th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Corley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III slid further than he should have, and the 70th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jordan Travis
They took Jordan Travis at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
D.J. James
D.J. James at No. 102 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick133
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in slot 133 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
A big swing on Frank Gore Jr. at pick 139, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick169
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the 169th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd6
Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit at pick 198 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jacob Cowing
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach the 223rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
