Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall C+
ValueD NeedC+ TradesC FutureA+
The Bengals did enough to get by: C+.

The Bengals clearly saw something nobody else did in Jam Griffin, taking him 290 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.

They banked enough surplus on Williams to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

With cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

So much rides on Jared Ivey that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick48 Rnd2 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in pick No. 48 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jack Sawyer at edge rusher with cornerback, tight end and other spots open.
Pick81 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the 81st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jam Griffin
They talked themselves into Jam Griffin at slot 118, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149 Rnd5 Chimere Dike
Somehow Chimere Dike was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick153 Rnd5 Ethan Downs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ethan Downs this early at Round 5, Pick 15. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick196 Rnd6 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at pick 196 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick244 Rnd7 Chandler Martin
A real head-scratcher, Chandler Martin in Round 7, Pick 28 is miles ahead of his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
