Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueD NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The 49ers get a C+.

The tape said wait; the 49ers did not. Seth McGowan went at Round 2, Pick 11, a good 368 picks before the board was ready.

Getting Giddens where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In No. 11 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Seth McGowan
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McGowan. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the 75th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick 100 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at slot 113 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd4 Brandon Adams
Brandon Adams at the 138th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick147 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
They will replay Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 147 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers in pick 160 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ali Jennings
They reached a country mile for Ali Jennings at the 227th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
They barely believed it either: DJ Giddens still on the board at No. 249. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Ricky White III
Steal is underselling it; Ricky White III at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
