FutureC
The Cardinals won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The war room fell hard for Willie Lampkin, and it showed at the 96th pick: 85 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Getting Bowman Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick28
Rnd1
Alfred Collins
In pick No. 28 they get a wrecking ball inside, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kelvin Banks Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kelvin Banks Jr. still on the board at slot 33. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Trey Amos
They read the board right and Trey Amos was the payoff at pick 60. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick61
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
No edge and no loss on Wyatt Milum in Round 2, Pick 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick78
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 78th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91
Rnd3
Tai Felton
Tai Felton in Round 3, Pick 27 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick96
Rnd3
Willie Lampkin
A big swing on Willie Lampkin at pick 96, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick101
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd3
Cody Simon
A wild overpay on Cody Simon in the 102nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
They went early on Jamaree Caldwell in the 115th pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard at No. 122 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick152
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 152 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
Taking Kyle Williams in pick No. 161 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
