Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall A
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Cardinals won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but McCallan Castles at the Round 7 slot is 82 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Little to argue with here, and the A says so.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They banked enough surplus on Ford to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The Cardinals clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In the end it comes back to Jared Verse, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In No. 27 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 28 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II slipping to the 35th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Calen Bullock. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick90 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 27 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 105th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
The board had Jarrian Jones higher than the 161st overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick188 Rnd6 Drake Nugent
They liked Drake Nugent enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 188. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Circle this one: Jaylan Ford at pick No. 222 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in No. 224 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241 Rnd7 McCallan Castles
McCallan Castles at the 241st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
