Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-.

The Texans put a flag in the ground for Jaylen Wright, 39 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at Round 1, Pick 23 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at pick No. 59 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick85 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in the 85th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jaylen Wright
They talked themselves into Jaylen Wright at pick 124, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Fair-plus on Jaylin Simpson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick236 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
A reach for Trevor Keegan in the 236th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jeremy Flax
They paid sticker price for Jeremy Flax in the 245th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
