Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureA
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a B weekend for the Commanders.

The Commanders bet big and early on Luke Lachey, 64 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. The White steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

It is not that Eichenberg is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at pick No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick37 Rnd2 Taliese Fuaga
They let Taliese Fuaga come to them and pounced at the 37th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick42 Rnd2 Luke Lachey
A big swing on Luke Lachey at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
They went early on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 2, and the value did not follow. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick73 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac at the 73rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100 Rnd3 Audric Estime
They paid a round early for Audric Estime in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent pick 102 on Tommy Eichenberg, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick139 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in Round 5, Pick 3, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146 Rnd5 Cole Bishop
They liked Cole Bishop enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 146. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick180 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at the 180th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
Somehow Moose Muhammad III was still sitting there in pick No. 206, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick223 Rnd7 Ricky White
They robbed the room for Ricky White here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
