Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
D

FutureB-
The Saints got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Saints did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Allen reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Barner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 14th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in pick No. 45. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Braswell at Round 3, Pick 3 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the 95th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
A wild overpay on Darius Robinson in No. 103, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick136
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at slot 136 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Nice patience on Justin Eboigbe, who had no business lasting to pick 138. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Magee. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick200
Rnd6
Tarheeb Still
They took Tarheeb Still at par in the 200th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220
Rnd6
AJ Barner
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing AJ Barner in pick 220. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
