Draft Grade — Bears

ValueB

FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 35 spots for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Sampson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
They took Shemar Stewart at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
They paid sticker price for Josh Conerly Jr. in pick 39, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 41 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick72
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 72 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Sampson at the 88th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
A slide stopped in slot 125, with Hollin Pierce worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A tidy little value on KeAndre Lambert-Smith in slot 197, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the 235th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick242
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They reached a country mile for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at Round 7, Pick 24, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
