Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureA+
The Patriots won the night they stopped King from sliding. Grade: B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Kobe King tumbling to the Patriots in Round 5, Pick 11 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Tuimoloau left real value on the table behind him.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the 20th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
A reach on JT Tuimoloau in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick49 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
They took Marcus Mbow at par in slot 49, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at Round 3, Pick 5 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in pick 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick81 Rnd3 Tre Harris
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to the 81st overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick106 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Good price on Lathan Ransom in No. 106, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kobe King
They robbed the room for Kobe King here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick191 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
A clean, defensible pick in pick 191 with a little surplus value in JJ Pegues. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A slide stopped in the 217th overall pick, with Luke Lachey worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220 Rnd7 Addison West
The board had Addison West higher than Round 7, Pick 4, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah is a better player than the 238th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick247 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
They read the board right and Bilhal Kone was the payoff at slot 247. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
