Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Luke McCaffrey, 46 picks early at the 119th pick.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In the end it comes back to Chop Robinson, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick 16 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at slot 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick43
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the 43rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at pick No. 45 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick58
Rnd2
Devontez Walker
They took Devontez Walker at par in Round 2, Pick 26, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Isaac Guerendo
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac Guerendo in the Round 3 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Value said wait; Theo Johnson in No. 111 says they were not listening. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick112
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 112 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
They talked themselves into Luke McCaffrey at Round 4, Pick 19, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the 143rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick216
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 216 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick243
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
They paid sticker price for LaDarius Henderson in the 243rd overall pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
