Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
F
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureD+
The Nwankpa reach set a tone the Titans could not shake: F. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Xavier Nwankpa at pick 116, a reach of 60 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
They banked enough surplus on McKinney to cover a lot of smaller sins. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In No. 4 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick30
Rnd1
Eric Singleton Jr.
In pick 30 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
They did well to land Nyck Harbor in pick No. 33, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick35
Rnd2
Avieon Terrell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Avieon Terrell at Round 2, Pick 3. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick44
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
A tidy little value on Caleb Banks in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A straight-up fair deal on Nicholas Singleton at the 67th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
Good price on Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 100, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick110
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
No drama and no debate, Charles Jagusah went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 8. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at slot 112 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick116
Rnd4
Xavier Nwankpa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Nwankpa well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick139
Rnd5
Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in the 139th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick151
Rnd5
Samuel Omosigho
Samuel Omosigho at the 151st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick154
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
They talked themselves into Patrick Payton at No. 154, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
DJ McKinney
Somehow DJ McKinney was still sitting there in pick 181, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick184
Rnd6
Pat Coogan
They paid up for Pat Coogan at pick No. 184 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199
Rnd6
Alex Birchmeier
Alex Birchmeier in the 199th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd7
Trey Moore
They jumped the gun on Trey Moore, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick234
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
By-the-book stuff, Tony Grimes at pick 234 squarely in line with his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
