You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wilson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The cost of the Lloyd reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
