FutureA
The Giants worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-. The war room fell hard for Ethan Downs, and it showed at the 175th overall pick: 95 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
However the rest shakes out, Giddens at that price is a win they earned. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 20 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nice patience on Nick Emmanwori, who had no business lasting to the 34th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They let Jihaad Campbell come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 25. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick58
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at pick No. 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick 65 is lovely value for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at No. 79 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99
Rnd3
Tyler Baron
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Baron in pick No. 99 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick105
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 105th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154
Rnd5
Will Howard
They will replay Will Howard at Round 5, Pick 16 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175
Rnd5
Ethan Downs
They talked themselves into Ethan Downs at pick 175, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick204
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick219
Rnd7
DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at the 219th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick223
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick246
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at Round 7, Pick 30 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
