sarhan DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. The 49ers bet big and early on Oluwafemi Oladejo, 100 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hudson. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a building block for the line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
The board had cheaper options than Alfred Collins at the 43rd pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
They reached a country mile for Cam Skattebo at No. 75, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jake Majors
No edge and no loss on Jake Majors in pick No. 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
A wild overpay on Aeneas Peebles in the 113th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Oluwafemi Oladejo this early at pick 138. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at Round 5, Pick 9 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick187
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in the 187th overall pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick226
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A reach on Teddye Buchanan in pick 226; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick230
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick249
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 249 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac at pick No. 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
