Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureC
The 49ers lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick 89 is 51 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. On value alone, Gordon II makes the weekend a net positive. The Terence Steele deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mike Green
Mike Green in slot 14 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick24
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 24th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 25 they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the 41st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 11 with a little surplus value in Tyler Booker. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They paid a round early for Andrew Mukuba in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in the 75th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
A tidy little value on Elijah Arroyo in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
They reached into another round for Oluwafemi Oladejo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100
Rnd3
Anthony Belton
A reach on Anthony Belton in pick 100; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A premium they did not need to pay, Bhayshul Tuten a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 147 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick148
Rnd5
Logan Brown
By-the-book stuff, Logan Brown at Round 5, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 149 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174
Rnd5
CJ West
CJ West at Round 5, Pick 36 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
They let Ollie Gordon II come to them and pounced at pick No. 187. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227
Rnd7
Nick Martin
A wild overpay on Nick Martin in slot 227, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Smith well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
They reached a country mile for Tonka Hemingway at No. 236, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
