Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Saints won the night they stopped Mickens from sliding. Grade: B+.

When a board-topper like R.J. Mickens slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Saints did not. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

They are betting Ratledge proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, O'Cyrus Torrence chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Harold Fannin Jr.
In pick No. 30 they get a red-zone target to build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A big swing on Tate Ratledge at the 40th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kyle Kennard. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omarr Norman-Lott. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
They paid sticker price for Ashton Gillotte in the 93rd overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jamaree Caldwell
A straight-up fair deal on Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick184 Rnd6 Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins at Round 6, Pick 8 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at pick 206 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick248 Rnd7 Shemar James
A clean, defensible pick in pick 248 with a little surplus value in Shemar James. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick254 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
Taking R.J. Mickens in Round 7, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
