Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Restrepo: B+. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Xavier Restrepo, the No. 106 name on the board, stolen at the Round 5 slot.
The Fairchild pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In slot 26 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Armand Membou
Somehow Armand Membou was still sitting there in pick 39, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malaki Starks at the 41st pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
They reached into another round for Dylan Fairchild, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
Value said wait; Aeneas Peebles in pick No. 112 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148
Rnd5
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick157
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the 157th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick233
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
A reach on Mac McWilliams in Round 7, Pick 17; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick240
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Torricelli Simpkins III. The roster fit checks out.
