Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Muhammad. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kayden McDonald at the 36th overall pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
They paid sticker price for Brian Parker II in slot 67, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
Somehow Malik Muhammad was still sitting there in pick No. 102, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
A quiet steal in the 117th pick: D'Angelo Ponds for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick134
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at pick 134 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at No. 174 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick180
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick183
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Fair-plus on Bud Clark, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kevin Jennings
Kevin Jennings is a better player than pick 219 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
