Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Colts let Mondon Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Smael Mondon Jr. tumbling to the Colts in pick 187 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They will need Conner to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get an enforcer at safety. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick No. 45 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick80
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at the 80th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Hayden Conner
They talked themselves into Hayden Conner at pick 115, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick150
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at the 150th pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick187
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in No. 232 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
