The Gabe Hall selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 92 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The Devonshire pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
