Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in slot 204: the Browns steal Coogan and grade out a B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Browns watched Pat Coogan slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Stewart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In pick No. 6 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value.
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In slot 24 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Chris Bell
Chris Bell at Round 2, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They jumped the gun on Blake Miller, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd5 Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart at No. 139 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick144 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
The board had DeMonte Capehart higher than pick 144, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 150th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
Somehow Pat Coogan was still sitting there in pick No. 204, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick215 Rnd6 De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at No. 215 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248 Rnd7 Damari Brown
They paid a round early for Damari Brown in the 248th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
