Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Bru McCoy, the No. 187 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 12.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Rashawn Slater leading the way. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In the end it comes back to Rome Odunze, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
