RJR_1775 DRAFTING FOR THEBills

Draft Grade — Bills

FutureD
The Bills won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bills took Charles Turner III at the Round 6 slot, roughly 93 spots before his name belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
McCaffrey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 17th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick60
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Good price on Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 28, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cole Bishop
A premium they did not need to pay, Cole Bishop a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in pick 128. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at No. 134, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 144 with a little surplus value in Jaylin Simpson. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick160
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at slot 160 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
They paid a round early for Khristian Boyd in pick 163, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Charles Turner III
Charles Turner III in the 204th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
The board had Donovan Jennings higher than the 248th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
