Draft Grade — Bills
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesD- FutureD
The Bills bled value on every deal, hence the C-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Xavier Thomas in the 206th pick.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker, quarterback and other spots still on the board.

Hit on Brian Thomas Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick29 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In No. 29 they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
By-the-book stuff, Ruke Orhorhoro at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick101 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in the 101st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the 106th pick leaves linebacker, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick159 Rnd5 Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at No. 159 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick162 Rnd5 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in slot 162 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick198 Rnd6 Omar Brown
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omar Brown. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick202 Rnd6 Kimani Vidal
They took Kimani Vidal at par in Round 6, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick206 Rnd6 Xavier Thomas
They reached into another round for Xavier Thomas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick246 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson at pick 246 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
