A solid, sensible weekend for the Bills: B-. Somebody in No. 196 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Ainias Smith, the No. 174 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Guyton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: linebacker settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in the 50th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99
Rnd3
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tyler Guyton
A wild overpay on Tyler Guyton in pick 118, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
They paid a round early for Frank Gore Jr. in Round 5, Pick 10, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Darius Robinson at the 155th overall pick is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick191
Rnd6
Jestin Jacobs
Jestin Jacobs in No. 191 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Ainias Smith
Taking Ainias Smith in pick No. 196 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joshua Gray well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jalen Milroe
They reached into another round for Jalen Milroe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
