The Buccaneers cashed the board's mistake on Mathews Jr.: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Buccaneers were there to profit. Jermaine Mathews Jr., the No. 162 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 2. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Norfleet reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Colin Simmons
In slot 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 KJ Bolden
KJ Bolden in the 33rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick69 Rnd3 Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson at Round 3, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Iapani Laloulu at the Round 4 slot is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jayden Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Jackson in pick 140. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Somehow Jermaine Mathews Jr. was still sitting there in the 183rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
They paid a round early for Brett Norfleet in pick No. 221, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
