The Buccaneers checked most of the boxes and earned a B+. Nobody else had Patrick Payton anywhere near the 122nd overall pick. The Buccaneers did, by 60 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
However the rest shakes out, Capehart at that price is a win they earned. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 22nd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
CJ Allen
Nice patience on CJ Allen, who had no business lasting to pick No. 54. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick122
Rnd4
Patrick Payton
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ahmaad Moses
By-the-book stuff, Ahmaad Moses at No. 132 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick161
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like DeMonte Capehart reach slot 161 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
